The eight hundred and nineteenth volume of the Archives of Maryland series was written by C. Ashley Ellefson and published by the Archives of Maryland in 2009.

The Maryland State Archives acknowledges with gratitude the opportunity to publish Seven Hangmen of Colonial Maryland, by C. Ashley Ellefson. Professor Ellefson, who retains the copyright to his manuscript, has provided a non-exclusive transfer of the copyright only for publication on the Maryland State Archives' website, with the provision that no changes, amendments, or additions to the text and/or documentation may be made in the manuscript without permission from Professor or Mrs. Ellefson, and with the further provision that they reserve the right to publish the manuscript, electronically or in other form, in the future at their discretion.

Volume 819 includes 71 charts that analyze, in a spreadsheet format, cases of capital punishment by jurisdiction, status, race, and other variables. Information includes name, county of prosecution, date of execution, and type of execution.

In addition, there are 31 charts that cover a variety of criminal matters and related court procedures. Time period, jurisdiction, and recorded details vary by category.
